New Delhi, February 7: New Indian Army Vice Chief is Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi , effective February 15, succeeding Lt. Gen. MV Suchindra Kumar. Lt. Gen. Dwivedi brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served in key roles including Deputy Chief and Director General of Infantry at the Army Headquarters.

His distinguished career spans over 37 years, during which he has commanded various strategic units across diverse terrains. Notably, he has served in operational capacities in the Northern Command during sensitive periods, contributing significantly to national security.

Lt. Gen. Dwivedi is an alumnus of prestigious institutions such as Sainik School, Rewa, the National Defence Academy, and the Indian Military Academy. Throughout his tenure, he has exhibited exceptional leadership, commanding his battalion in the Kashmir Valley, Assam Rifles Sector along the Indo-Myanmar Border, and Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (IGAR, East).

Moreover, his instructional roles at the Indian Military Academy and Army War College have helped shape the future leadership of the army. His overseas tenures in Somalia and Seychelles further enriched his strategic outlook.
